Four of my therapist friends and I attended the More To Life Weekend (then called “Life Training”) in 1982. I didn’t go to “fix” anything. By all standards, my life was “successful” – a career I loved, financial stability, close relationships with my family and friends, travel when and where I wanted. I didn’t “need” anything, except to satisfy Continuing Education Units for my psychotherapy license. I was committed to “doing good” – but there was so much more on offer for me. I didn’t know what I didn’t know – i.e., I didn’t realize the extent of my arrogance, the depth of my resentments, or the lack of a greater spiritual purpose for my own life. I walked out of that Weekend with a profound sense of who I am and how I want to be in the world.
After the Weekend was over, I wasn’t sure what exactly had happened to me; I only knew, without a shred of doubt, that I wanted to become a Trainer in the Program. I wanted to be part of the turning point in people’s lives, to facilitate the understanding of their own nobility, and their awakening to the possibilities inherent in each moment of life. To be part of a whole room of people experiencing that kind of transformation is humbling and electric at the same time. I feel privileged to be in that space.
